The Day of Lovers, February 14th of every year, is coming closer again. Every woman is probably already looking forward to the moment when her beloved has prepared a sweet, romantic gesture and every man has no idea at this point in time that this day is just around the corner again and he is forced to move.

Was it Bishop Valentin of Terni or Priest Valentin of Rome who brought us this day? Or is Valentin of Terni and Valentin of Rome one and the same person? Or is there even a third possible patron of the day? But one thing is certain: all three Valentines had to die. Far too soon and by human hands. Since the circumstances are not accidental enough, records show that all three were executed on February 14th in 268 and 269 A.D. Coincidences exist! Just pick someone you want to blame for the annual flower madness, but two of the three Valentine's are the best choice:

#Valentine from Terni
a bishop who cared for the sick and needy and is said to have prescribed them to Christianity and its faith.

#Valentine of Rome
a priest who enjoyed a high reputation with Emperor Claudius II, but illegally married soldiers according to Christian faith and therefore received the death penalty. He gave flowers to each newly married couple, perhaps this is why his newlyweds were considered blessed with happiness and love.

It should be mentioned that Christianity was not recognized as a religion at that time and therefore was officially banned and its followers were persecuted. But Valentine's Day holds even more secrets, which unfortunately cannot be traced exactly up to modern times. So there are statements like there is a connection with the Roman festival Lupercalia. Or the first proven association of romantic love with Valentine's Day is attributed to Geoffrey Chaucer's Parlement of Foules (1382). Some believe that the day actually belongs to the Roman patron goddess Juno, as well as marriage and family. Samuel Pepys and his wife may have introduced the sending of cards with flowers on Valentine's Day. Another plausible alternative is that it's all nonsense and an invention of the flower vendors anyway. As you can see, nobody really agrees on what is 100% true. But since people in love, influenced by hormonal overproduction, see things a little differently, we'll simply leave it at "you have an official day to give each other presents!"  Whoo-hoo.To wish all lovers a wonderful, romantic and honourable day of love we have collected some facts from all over the world:
